Pet contests galore
I subscribe to a number of pet related newsletters. (including, of course, World by the Tail's Veterinary Wisdom newsletter. You can subscribe to ours by going to the homepage! www.veterinarywisdom.com) Recently, there has been a rash of announcements about numerous pet contests. I thought I would share a few of them with you!
First up is Hill's "Help Save a Million Pets". Go to Hill's website and from there, you'll select a shelter that you would like to help. Then you share your shelter pet adoption story, video, and photos. The winner of this contest will have $10,000 donated to the shelter you choose to help, a photoshoot with renowned pet photographer Jim Dratfield, and one year of Science Diet pet food. This contest closes on November 4, 2008, so you have a bit of time to enter!
Next up, I read on the Dogster blog about the American Humane 2008
Pets & Pals Photo Contest. This one ends soon, so you'll have to jump on it! The postmark date is July 31, 2008! There are six categories for photos to fit into - dogs, cats, people & pets, petpourri (multiple animals), down on the farm, and shelter life. You could win one of two grand prizes of $2,000 each, plus non-cash prizes. (photo on the right is last year's winner) 
Alpo is searching for the "Ultimate Meat Maniac"! This one ends soon also and it is a video contest. The end date of this contest is July 27. Your video should "clearly show entrant's dog's excitement when he is about to be fed Purina® ALPO® brand Dog Food." By entering this contest you could win $10,000, your dog's face will appear on cans of ALPO®, and you'll get a trip to Hollywood!
Do you have a really well-trained cat or dog? They could win the Star Pet contest! This contest deadline
is October 13. You need to have a "headshot" of your pet, as well as a video. If you wind up being a semi-finalist, you'll receive a trip to New York City and if you're the grand prize winner, you'll receive representation by Bash Dibra and will be coached on how to secure TV and movie roles for your pet. (a $15,000 value).
So there you have it - a bunch of cool pet contests! Will you enter? I'd love to know if you decide to - or even better, if you enter and WIN! I know you all have wonderful pets - maybe this is their "big break"!
All these contests have me thinking... we need to run a pet contest here at World by the Tail, Inc. I'm going to put that on my "to think about" list and see what I come up with. Any ideas on that front?

The winner of last year's pets and pals photo contest is adorable. Maybe I'll enter a few photos into that contest. Hmm, as far as a contest for you to run...how about most unique dog trick (with video)? Or, who can do the most tricks in a row?
