Golden Retriever Surrogate Mom

I came across this cuteness today! In Kansas, there is a litter of tiger cubs who have been abandoned by their mom. That is when Isabella stepped in to help.

Golden_tigersIsabella is a gorgeous Golden Retriever who had just weened her own litter of puppies. She has taken these  abandoned babies and is nursing them! She even cleans and cares for them as if they were her own pups!

I truly love seeing stories like this one. It gives hope. These are two separate species (like the cat nursing the bunny that I posted recently!) But the dog obviously doesn't care about that. She knows, instinctively, that these babes need help, and she helps! Why can't humans be more like animals?!

Check out the news story about this sweet Golden and her tiger cubs.

Princess Chunky

**UPDATE - so now news stories are saying that Princess IS a male. His owner has come forward. His name is Powder. His owner said that she could no longer care for him because she lost her home to the bank. Powder/Princess has unwittingly become the face of the housing crisis! He even is making media appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly and other national TV shows! He will still go up for adoption later this week or early next. **

So, I thought I had a big cat. My Luna girl weighs eighteen pounds. (She will always be MY Luna even though she isn't living with us anymore!) But, then I saw
THIS cat! She is a big girl! Even her paws are big though!! She might require a larger ClayPaws® patty than the "normal" cat!
Fatcat_b
Her name (given by the shelter where she was taken after being spotted as a stray) is Princess Chunky.  And, no lie, she weighs in at 44 pounds! Wow! They couldn't use their cat scale to weigh her because it tops out at 25 pounds. She is just two pounds off the Guiness Book record for cats!

Currently, she is living with a shelter volunteer until she finds a permanent home or her owners come to claim her. She is seemingly healthy, but the shelter will run tests to determine if she has underlying health issues such as diabetes or a thyroid problem. If her owners don't claim her, they will place her in a permanent home. There didn't seem to be any worry about not finding her a home!

Would you adopt Princess Chunky? I know I would! She's adorable and seems like she could use a loving home just like any other kitty out there!

It's been a BUSY week here at World by the Tail headquarters! I haven't had time to blog much and now it's almost the 4th of July holiday!

Friday Cuteness

Since it is Friday the 13th, I thought I would share a little cuteness with you!

My fiance, Mike, passed this story along to me.

Turns out that animals have phobias too! There is a little pig named Cinders in the UK who has a fear of mud or mysophobia! As you can imagine, in a pig's life, this fear makes it difficult to get along!

Pigboots The family that owns Cinders found a very cute solution to her fear. They used little bitty "wellies" or galoshes from a keychain to put on her feet. She now happily walks through the mud with her little boots on. Her owners own a sausage farm, however, Cinders will be spared! She is going to be a mascot for the family's campaign - Farm Crisis Network, which helps struggling farmers.

Every time I see this picture of Cinders, it makes me smile! (It's interesting for me to know that animals also have irrational fears - to fit right in with my own fear of thunder or astrapophobia!)

Visiting Family

I am  just returned from a visit to see two of my sisters! (I have 4 sisters total AND 3 brothers!) My friend Andrea and I flew to Tulsa, OK and then drove about an hour or so to Siloam Springs, AR where my sisters and nieces live!

KatyIn addition to seeing family, I got to see my canine "family" members too! All of my relatives there have dogs! My sister Vicki has two - a Yorkie named Katy (left - with my great-nieces hands trying to give her a sticker!) and a Husky/German Shepherd mix named Ninook. Nin and Katy know me from previous visits. Nin loves me! He wouldn't leave me alone - kept resting his Ninhead on my lap! Very sweet (if not so smart) boy.  (pictured right)

HarleyMy sister Rhonda has a little, black poodle pup named Harley. (left) He is WILD! Very cute and sweet, but a bit out of control! He spends quite a bit of time  alone, so he craves human attention! Once he calms down though, he's fun!

Izzy
My niece Amanda also has dogs. She has two boxers, Izzy and Murphy. They rescued Murphy from near-death, and he looks great after a month with them! (I only got a picture of Izzy though! She is pictured on the right with my niece Sheri and my great-niece Kenadie.)

It was a great visit! I enjoyed the humans and canines! :)

Kitty Therapy

We've been sick at my  house this week. A nasty spring flu/cold hit both Mike and I.

While we were laying around (moaning) we realized that we have five little therapists in the house. That's right... Our cats!  Cats_2

All five of them, in their own unique ways, help us to feel better when we're sick or down in the dumps. When either of us is sick and bundled up on the couch, we can count on Ben and/or Miss Girl curling up with us. I swear you can feel their kitty energy transferring to us! Miss Girl especially seems to be aware that we're not feeling good. She glues herself to us! She is this tiny little cat with problems of her own, but she wants her pet parents to feel better and tries her hardest to help!

Ben is a lover anyway, but when we're sick he really kicks it up a notch. He isn't a purr-er. But he is learning to purr. We call it purrgling. He gets a good loud purr off, and then it chokes him and he sort of gurgles. It's very cute, and endearing! You can tell he's really "therapizing" (my own made-up word) you when he gets to purrgling!

Oscar, Henry, and Luna all try to help. Luna is the least helpful, partially because she is so big! (17-18 pounds of black cat energy!) She wants to curl up on you, but it kind of winds up hurting rather than helping! Oscar is my boy - he likes to curl up around my head. Which is nice, but sometimes, not exactly what you want when you have a cold!

Do you have animals that help when you're sick or feeling blue? Even when they are just doing something crazy to make you laugh, they help!

Wonder Dog Saves Baby Kangaroo

I came across a lovely, heartwarming story in the news today! Rexskippy

It is the story of Rex, a German Shorthair/Wirehair Pointer mix, and an orphaned joey (baby kangaroo). Rex and his owner were walking when they saw the body of a kangaroo that had been hit by a car. Rex quickly realized that the joey with the mom was still living and let his owner know. He rescued the joey from the pouch of the deceased mom and brought it to his owner. The joey was unharmed and relatively calm. The joey (Rex Jr.) is being cared for at a Wildlife Sanctuary and will be released when he is old enough!

I love reading stories such as this one. It gives me hope. Do you have any lovely animal stories to share? Leave me a comment!

Sweet kitty story

Kittylove1185
Did you hear about the little pig born a few months back with the heart markings? (Named Valentine, of
course!)

Well, I just saw a news story about a litter of kittens born on Easter Sunday. One of these new little babies has some interesting markings! On the baby's side, his black markings seem to spell out "I love (heart) dot".

Now, this would be cute because Kittymessage2185of the heart marking, but what makes this a special story is that the kitten's mom is named Dottie! Kitten's family thinks that this baby is showing love for mommy!

Peace in the Animal Kingdom

On this first day of Spring 2008, I thought it would be fun to share this video with you. Take a few minutes to watch the story of Booger, Kitty and Mousey. It is inspiring to see that a dog, cat, and rat can live peaceably together. We humans should take notes!
