We talk a lot about the human-animal bond. We all love our pets! But if it came down to a decision, would your partner or your pet win?
I ran across an AP-Petside.com poll recently that said while most people would choose their significant other over a pet, a pretty sizable number would actually be sure to hang on to the pet! 84% of the respondents would decide in favor of their partner. 14% though, said that their pet would win.
I personally think that 14% is a pretty shocking number. I wouldn't have thought it would wind up being that high. After all, our pets have a much shorter life span (typically anyway) than our human partners. I have never been put in a spot where there was a choice. I had my cats when I met Mike. (Pictured is my cat Henry with Mike.)He knew we were a package deal, and thankfully, he liked the cats, and they liked him. If, early on in our relationship, Mike had disliked the cats, I'm not sure how things would have gone. I don't think we would have become committed to one another if there was an issue with the cats though.
I can say now, though, if I answered this poll, my husband would win out over the cats. Much as I love my cats, I love my husband more. So, there's no chance I would ditch my husband and keep the cats! I hope it never becomes an issue that I would have to even consider.
How would you have answered this poll??

I'm with you, Tammy. I love my pets and would never intentionally put myself in a position where I had to choose, but given an emergency like a house fire, etc., husband gets rescued first!

Thanks Laurel! That's a relief.

Well, you may be relieved, Pete, but you didn't tell us your decision! Who would YOU choose?

I can't even imagine getting involved with someone who didn't love my pets.

I have had plenty of boyfriends (loosers) where Chester would have won every time. Boyfriends come and go but Chester has always been there for me. Since I have met the love of my life I think Chester would sadly loose if I had to make a choice. Luckly, he loves the dogs...almost more than me sometimes :)

Having been a widow for 17 years, there ain't no way a man would win out over even this current alley cat of mine, Buddy! I have learned that it is truly better to be alone than in bad company, which there is surely no shortage of. But cats! For me, they are all I need in the line of company....even on his worst day Buddy is good company.
